Course Outline
In the session we will introduce four protein databases from the EBI:
| Database | Content |
|---|---|
| UniProt | Protein names and functional information from academic literature and bioinformatics software. |
| InterPro | Tools to predict domains and sites that aid in the classification of proteins and prediction of function. |
| IntAct | Detailed experimental molecular interaction information. |
| Reactome | Illustrations and annotations of biological pathways and the reactions that comprises them. |
We will start the session by introducing ontologies, which are an important development in scientific annotation. Then for each database we will give a short presentation, followed by a brief demonstration of the database website then participants will be given short exercises to prompt them to practise using each database.
This session will usually be offered as one of a number of short introductions to EBI Services that can be booked separately.

The course will be conducted in:
Room G12-13, Department of Genetics, University of Cambridge,
Tennis Court Road, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire CB2 3EH
Some helpful information on how to get here can be found in the Genetics Department's web pages.
The Department of Genetics has wheelchair access to the main entrance. G12-13 is on the ground floor where there are toilets suitable for wheelchair users. It is possible to use most of our workstations in a wheelchair, but if you would like to reserve a workstation (at the back of the class) which has more room for easy manoevour, or you have any other queries or particular requirements, please ask.
